I slept in. And I don't feel guilty about it! I was going on no sleep and after traveling 14 hours I deserved it. After finding a replacement phone charger I left the hotel at 1pm. I asked the guy at the hotel which direction the T (metro) station was and he gave me directions. That I didn't write down. Did I mention I am completely dumb when it comes to directions?
After walking 10 blocks the wrong way, I consulted my trusty Google Maps and located the Andrews T Station. Getting in to the city was ridiculously easy. I have a fear of public transportation (because So Cal is severely lacking) but the T is pretty self explanatory.
I changed trains at the Downtown Crossing station and ended at the Haymarket station. I walked right out in to a farmers market! So nice! I didn't buy anything, but was happy to see how popular it seemed to be. I wandered around a bit before I had to pull out my map. I made my way to State street to find the Old Trolley Tour booth. My hotel front desk guy had recommended this tour. I bought my ticket and was off to find lunch. Legal Seafood had been recommend by several of my friends, so I opted to try that for my first Boston meal.

I grabbed an outdoor table at Legal and ordered the Sam Adam's seasonal, Oktoberfest. After drooling over the entire seafood menu, I decided on the Lobster special. It came with Clam Chowder, two sides (green beans and rice pilaf were my choices) and 1.75lb steamed lobster! It also came with a caramel cheesecake, but I was too stuffed for more than a bite after all was said and done.

Man was that tasty! I was a little taken aback, I'm not sure I've eaten a full lobster like that before. But I was able to figure it out!
After lunch, I caught the trolley tour. It is supposed to last 80 minutes and you are able to get off and on the trolley at any of the 15 (or so) stops. I stayed on the entire time, learning some history of Boston and just trying to get a feel for the city and what I wanted to visit. The trolley ticket is for two days, so tomorrow I plan to use the trolley as my transportation to different parts of the city.
The trolley dropped me off back by the wharf and I wandered through Quincy Market. Lots of shops and some street performers. I had my eye on an older looking tavern near the T station, so I stopped there for a local beer. It was the Bell in Hand tavern where I indulged in their own Amber Ale. Quite tasty and the people watching was divine! It's the oldest tavern in America.

I'm really trying to not turn this blog in to "This is what Melissa ate today" but who doesn't like photos of food and beer? ;-)
I'm still not 100% sure if South Boston (where my hotel is located) is sketchy or not, so I planned to be back to my hotel before dark. I timed it perfectly and even had a chance to drop by Target for some snacks in case I get hungry later tonight.
Now for some vegging out in front of the TV in my PJs!
Tomorrow's angenda: Fenway Park, Cheers bar and an engagement session with my July San Diego couple!!
I seriously have to go traveling with you one day! LOVE it!
